Classic Falafels

Falafels~ just the right match for hummus 😉


1 can chickpeas
1 egg
~1/2 lemon
1 tsp baking powder
~1tbsp olive oil
1/2 red onion
1 garlic clove
~1 cup (panko) bread crumbs

1. Drain and rinse chickpeas, then mash them. (Do not use blender).
2. In a small bowl, whisk egg, dashes of spices, lemon juice, and baking powder together. Fold into mashed chickpeas along with olive oil.
3. Finely dice onion and garlic. Add to batter, along with bread crumbs until the consistency can hold together.
4. Under medium heat, heat a pot with 1-in of oil. Fry falafels in oil until brown on all sides.

Makes 20 falafels.

Add any more other spices that you like!

Use a cookie dough scoop to help shape falafels.
